History, Laughter & Connection – Star-Bites 57 Visits Dundalk Museum
On a sunny Tuesday, 27th May, the Star-Bites 57 Social Kitchen regulars swapped into their walking shoes for adventure and set off on a heart-warming outing to Dundalk Museum – and what a fantastic day it turned out to be!
“From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel right at home,” says Joanne, Star Bites 57 Navigator. “Brian, the museum manager, greeted us with the kind of warmth that makes you feel like you’ve just met an old friend. He introduced us to Caroline, our guide for the day, who took us on a captivating journey through the rich history of Dundalk and County Louth.”
Through old videos, photographs, and fascinating memorabilia, Caroline brought stories of the past to life – from bustling streets to cherished local traditions. There was laughter, nostalgia, and more than a few “I remember that!” moments. It wasn’t just a museum tour – it was a walk down memory lane that reminded members of how much we share.

“Of course, no great day out is complete without good food and company!” added Joanne. After the museum, the Star Bites crew strolled over to McGeough’s Bar, where they enjoyed a delicious light lunch and had time to relax, chat, and connect. Whether it was catching up with an old friend or getting to know someone new, the conversations flowed just as easily as the coffee.

That’s the origin of what Star-Bites is all about – creating opportunities for people to come together, build friendships, and feel part of something bigger. Days like this one remind us all how powerful those small moments of connection can be.

Star Bites 57 is a warm, community-based drop-in service held twice weekly. It offers Housing Executive tenants and applicants a chance to access practical support, friendly conversation, and a nutritious light bite — all in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
