An Droichead

“An Droichead” (The Bridge), is a new full time programme for young people (16+) with additional needs, brought to you by Bolster Community and St. Paul’s High School (Bessbrook) – and aims to bridge the gap between school and employment through a supported, inclusive, and practical transition programme.

What's Included

Qualifications

  • OCN (NI) Essential Skills: Numeracy & Literacy

  • OCN (NI): Interview Skills, CV Writing, Wellbeing & Resilience

  • First Aid and Food Hygiene (Level 1 or 2)


Work Experience

Placements across a range of sectors, including:
Retail, Hospitality, Administration, Manufacturing, and Horticulture.


Life & Employability Skills

  • Using public transport

  • Preparation for work

  • Mock interviews


Peer Mentoring

Partnership work with Bolster Buddies and Autism Connect members.


Dedicated, Experienced Support Staff & Safe Environment

  • Based in St. Paul’s High School Bessbrook, Bolster Community, and local workplaces

  • Support from trained staff and the Bolster Community team


Transport

  • Promoting the use of community transport

  • Support provided for travel to and from work placements


Uniforms

Students design and create their own uniforms as part of the induction process.

Programme Benefits

This is free, fully funded programme by the Apprenticeship Inclusion Challenge Fund from the Depart. for Economy N.I.

Students will receive £40 per week Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA is based on full attendance)

This is a suitable pathway for students 16+ who may just need a little extra help in preparing for that next step into employment.
