BUILDING FUTURES CLASSROOM ASSISTANT COURSE

BUILDING FUTURES CLASSROOM ASSISTANT COURSE

Building Futures is a programme for women who may be looking for new opportunities and pathways into employment – It is specifically open to women 18yrs and older, currently unemployed and residing in Newry, Mourne and Down. For women who have been busy raising a family or had caring duties, or time out for any myriad of personal reasons, it can be difficult to know where to start – and that’s the aim of our programme, to help you figure it out and help you get there – you don’t have to figure out ‘what next’ on your own!

The programme has been designed in conjunction with our partners WOMENSTEC and Women in Business – and includes a variety of options from self-development, mentoring, OCN qualifications and much more. In fact starting this September we will have:

>Time for Me – Introductory event (Slieve Gullion)
>Classroom Assistant programme (Slieve Gullion)
>Discovering Potential self-development course (Slieve Gullion, Downpatrick)
>DIY courses (Slieve Gullion, Downpatrick, Crotlieve)
>Social Media for new business start-ups (Newry)
>Managing personal Finances (Slieve Gullion)
>Parent workshops for helping with Homework (Slieve Gullion, Newry)
>Mentoring (in person or remote)
COULD BECOMING A CLASSROOM ASSISTANT BE AN OPTION?
We were ecstatic to see the successful completion of our first Classroom Assistant course which ran in our Marcus Street office (May-June 2024), from which 14 women graduated with an OCN in employability as well as a certificate in Paediatric First Aid. The sessions also included opportunities for CV and interview prep as well as mock interviews with different panellists from local schools. Feedback was fantastic with one participant sharing…

“…I’ve met so many inspiring women through this Building Futures course! Many of them are mothers or carers who are very keen to get back into the working world, but they had low confidence because of CV gaps. The course gave us all the incentive to grow in confidence and test our own areas for improvement.”

These weekly sessions gave our participants the chance to form new bonds and connections, increase their confidence, self-esteem and in this case, their employability. Some of our ladies have already secured new classroom assistant roles, whilst some have opted to go into further education (and have received financial help with fees via the Building Futures bursaries on offer). Proof right there that this course is worth doing!!

We will be running this Classroom Assistant course again this September in the Slieve Gullion area, so if you or anyone you know would like to enquire about joining (note that eligibility criteria apply*), just give Tracy or Justina a call at Bolster Community: 028 3083 5764.
