Celebrating at the National Learning Disability and Autism Awards!

We are delighted to announce that Bolster Community where shortlisted in four categories as finalists at the recent National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards 2023!  

The National Learning Disabilities and Autism Awards held in Belfast last week, celebrated excellence in support for people with learning disabilities and autism. Organisations from across Northern Ireland came together to celebrate and pay tribute to those individuals or organisations who excel in providing quality care. 

 

Bolster Community, a charity and social enterprise based in Newry who provide practical support to families, individuals and the community who are facing life’s challenges. Bolster also provide opportunities for individuals with autism and learning disabilities.   

 

Last week the team braved the weather and headed to Belfast for the awards ceremony. After impressing the judges at the interviews Bolster Community was shortlisted for four categories:  

  • Employer Award – Celebrating an exceptional employer committed to their employees and delivering excellent service to their users.  
  • The People’s Award – Our day opportunities for young adults with learning disabilities were recognised for exceptional care and personal development.  
  • Newcomer Award – Orla Flinnighan, Family Support Worker was nominated for her consistent ‘can do’ attitude. 
  • Support Worker Award – Noreen McConville, the young people’s favourite support worker! The maternal figurehead in Bolster a cup of tea and a listening ear is never far away.

As an organisation, we work to support families and individuals in Newry and the surrounding areas, with a focus on providing opportunities for adults with learning disabilities and autism. The National Learning Disability and Autism Awards was an amazing opportunity for people who use services, careers and providers to come together and celebrate the ongoing achievements and developments of individuals and organisations.”
